The Most comprehensive Japanese text

The books arrived quicker than promised, and the books themselves are the best Japanese instruction I have ever seen. They are formatted to be more teacher-friendly than independent-user friendly. They focus on speaking and listening, so someone using these materials would likely want to find supplements if they wanted to learn the writing systems. It is also important to note that the topics and pacing follow the European Framework for learning languages, which is also basically the same as the newest ACTFL standards. Extensive online resources.

Good Japanese book for the non-Japanese learner, easier and more effective exercises and proper level start at A1.

This is what my Japanese Saturday School chose to replace the Japanese for Young People series books with this year. This book is A1 and has a companion work book, it's for three quarters of beginner one lessons for Japanese Saturday School and used exclusively for the Foreign students which hear is basically the non-Japanese student like myself, so Foreign is a bit of a misnomer. The Japanese students use the text from Japan so they can keep up their native studies in step with the Japanese school system. This book is designed differently. As I said it's A1 the first level of competency tested for the Japanese government, there is A1-A2, B1-B2, & C1-C2 as levels of proficiency. The school adapted this because it was easier to teach conversational Japanese with. I took a course using the old book and that's correct, it gives a lot of information, but the lessons and exercises are boring and difficult. This with companion web or cd you can hear and do the exercises that are more useful, and most are more straight forward to understand. It does not provide the crutch of a self contained dictionary and such, like the other book, but it's much easier to work with at home for homework and study. The workbook is pretty good too.
The study of Japanese is not an easy undertaking, but this book should help the learning process. Recommended to all non-native Japanese who wish to learn the language from scratch.
