About the Author

Dr. Neven Kresic is the incoming vice president of the American Institute of Hydrology for International Affairs cooperating with UNESCO, and the International Water Association on world groundwater affairs. He is a member of the International Association of Hydrogeologists and a permanent member of the Karst Commission. A senior principal and professional hydrogeologist, Dr. Kresic has more than two decades of groundwater and surface water-related consulting, research, and teaching experience, including major projects in the United States, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and North Africa. He has worked with U.S. and international clients, including federal, state, and local agencies, and industries such as water, transportation, and power utilities, and oil, petrochemical, chemical, and construction companies.

In addition to numerous scientific and professional papers, Dr. Kresic has authored five books including Groundwater Resources: Sustainability, Management and Restoration (McGraw-Hill). He was a professor at Belgrade University, Yugoslavia and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas, where he taught courses in hydrogeology, groundwater modeling, and groundwater remediation.

I wrote this book with two objectives in mind: (1) to make the book as accessible as possible for students encountering this material for the first time, and (2) to make the book as affordable as possible by publishing it myself rather than working with a mainstream textbook publisher.

About the Author
The author is a professor in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he teaches atmospheric physics and remote sensing to undergraduate meteorology majors and graduate students. His research specialties include satellite microwave remote sensing of rainfall and other atmospheric variables, as well as radiative transfer modeling in three-dimensional clouds.

Excellent book!

An excellent introductory book on atmospheric radiation that fills a previously huge void in the books available on this topic. Written in a style that differs from any textbook I've ever experienced. The book covers a wide spectrum of issues related to atmospheric radiation, but doesn't overwhelm the reader in the process. Practical examples and applications of the theories and ideas presented abound. A very refreshing...dare I say enjoyable...scientific book.

Masterful Exposition

This is among the best scientific textbooks I have read. I wish I could give it six stars. There are interesting points scattered throughout the book, I even got a couple of new perspectives from an early chapter on electromagnetism. The section on radiative heating and cooling due to trace gases (Chapter 10) particularly grabbed me, because of its implications for Global Warming (excuse me, Climate Change). I liked the book so much I even read the Appendix, and sure enough, there was an interesting discussion of the rigorously correct but counterintuitive and computationally troublesome Extinction Paradox. A thouroughly excellent book.

Perfect book for an introductory level

This book was used in my graduate atmospheric radiation class. It was far supperior to the book used in my undergrad class (wallace and hobbs introduction to atmospheric sciences) not that W&H was a bad book but this book is much more focused since it is not as broad as W&H book.

Good aspects of this book is that it starts with a good fundemental background before it delves into the real meat of the course (being radiative calculations for both long wave and short wave theory). The book is very easy to read for someone with introductory knowledge of radiative theory and is not much tougher without this introductory knowledge. The figures are clear and concise and the topics are well organized.

Downfall of this book is the excersices presented to reinforce topics. Most of the excercises are just plug and chug or are descriptive problems that really only require one to read the previous section. more problems and problems that require more thinking would be benificial but the author already aknowledges that this was a week point of the book.

Over all the book was written very well and was easy to understand. It is a great tool for anyone interested in atmospheric radiation, either on an introductory level or as a complement to ones library. Given the other books available for a course on radiation this one ranks near or on the top.

And as a University of Oklahoma Meteorology alumni, I must say, Boomer Sooner.

Clear, concise, usable

I recently had the opportunity to read What Would Ben Graham Do Now?: A New Value Investing Playbook for a Global Age, a book that I did not find too interesting. So when faced with the opportunity to read and review a gratis copy of this book, I was a little hesitant. Once I started to read, however, I found my fears uncalled for. Where WWBGDN is vague, rambling and imprecise, Benjamin Graham and the Power of Growth Stocks is clear, concise, and infinitely usable.

Most investors by now are well familiar with the tenets of Benjamin Graham and his many disciples, which include a few pretty good investors, like Warren Buffet to name one. This book is particularly interesting because it revisits the investing philosophy of Mr. Graham with an angle toward using (I hesitate to say "specializing in") growth stocks. It then expounds on the most tangent of Mr. Graham's principles, and expands them in light of the modern investment environment. But what really makes this book a winner for me is the fact that it proposes and explains a tangible, executable formula and method for actually calculating the value of a growth stock and whether or not it is one that should be invested in. Too often we hear some investment advisor tell us, "This formula works, unless of course it doesn't". There is none of that here. You set the margin of safety where you are comfortable. You set the growth rate (called "hurdle rate" here) you need (or want) to achieve. You look up or calculate the values for the company you want to invest in. Then you apply Graham's formula. If the numbers match, great! You've found your stock. If they don't, you have to keep looking or change your expectations. The choices are always up to you. For a disciplined investor, I think this methodology is ideal. By constantly referring to Graham's teachings, the author has really reached an investment threshold that is understandable, achievable, and repeatable. The writing is crisp and friendly, and the style is homey without being corny or preachy. Above all, the author has a solid understanding of the investment principles of Ben Graham, and he has the experience of using them, and succeeding with them, over a statistically significant period of time. Without a doubt, Ben Graham's growth stock approach is sensible, making this book probably the best investment book I've read this year. I can only give it the highest possible marks.

As a self-taught investor I have read about 15 books on investing for the long-term, from Graham to Fisher to Buffet, and I think "Benjamin Graham and the Power of Growth Stocks" absolutely belongs on every long-term growth investor's bookshelf; better yet, on his desk. I highly recommend this book for those who are new to the game, long-term growth investors and anyone who wants to learn how to find the intrinsic value of a company's stock price. The knowledge you will gain will save you years researching and scouring other books looking for the information presented here.

Picking good companies to invest in can be arduous, but this book can simplify the process by showing you how to use Graham's formula to calculate the ones to eliminate and the ones to buy with a Margin of Safety. In fact, I believe that Ben himself would be proud of the methodologies laid out in this book.

I recommend "Benjamin Graham and the Power of Growth Stocks" to any individual or professional investor with long-term investment goals. You will walk away with a better understanding of Mr. Market and how to invest for the long term.

Ben Graham Revisited

Although I am a follower of Graham and usually look for value stocks, I was always puzzled by the great opportunities that I missed in the past by refusing to pay a fair price for a growth company. Later, reading about Peter Lynch's successes, I tried to juxtapose his approach to Ben Graham's recommendations for buying growth stocks. Finally, this book sheds some light on this much forgottten Ben Graham's technique to growth stocks valuation. I believe Warren buffett's purchase of Coca-Cola in 1995 had conformed to the same approach.

Short but powerful information

When we speak to others we forget that our words are just a SMALL FRACTION of what is being communicated. Whether we are speaking to one person or a large audience, the simple yet very effective tools and exercises taught in this book will give you authority and power to communicate effectively. I needed to hear these things. I immediately thought of recent situations I have been in where I know I was perceived as weak, simply from how I was speaking. I plan to work on this. Good and helpful little book to set you straight if you feel inadequate in your conversations with others or if you are preparing to speak to a larger group.

The V-Twin Tuner's Handbook, Volume One is part of a three-volume set by Crystal Publications called the Performance Pro Series. Over 20 years ago my 86 ci Sportster was completely disassembled and meticulously packed away in storage boxes. After spending 18 long months building a custom house and encountering Murphy's Law on more than one occasion, I thought it was time to again have some fun and rebuild the 86 ci Sporty with contemporary performance parts. What I discovered was that I had lost touch with current performance technology and was rusty in the procedures for designing, building and tuning the engine and bike. At the time, I wished there was a book that could provide me the information needed to build an engine and bike that would run at the front of the pack. After much research and review of my notes, I finally broke the code and built what, at the time, was a very competitive hot street Sporty. The experience of not having a source of reliable and detailed performance information planted the seed to someday use my writing, marketing and computer technology skills along with my Harley engine building and racing skills to write a comprehensive book with useful information for Harley performance enthusiasts. Although that "someday" took 15 years to reach fruition, it resulted in my writing The Big Twin High-Performance Guide, Volume One, the first book in the Performance Pro Series.

To write a comprehensive performance book takes an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the needs of the high-performance enthusiast. Moreover, compiling useful, compelling, hard-to-find performance information is extremely time consuming and difficult. (This is why such information is often conspicuously absent from some manuals, and why one author of a performance book recently extensively plagiarized The Big Twin High-Performance Guide.)

Foreword: The inspiration for this book originated from my randomly written notes, some of which were scribed more than 30 years ago. The notes included detailed information handy for designing, building and tuning a vehicle. Since this type of information is essential for optimizing performance, I decided to organize and published it as a book in 1993. It quickly became highly sought after by novice performance enthusiasts for its hard-to-find detailed information and by successful racers as a source of valuable reference material.

This new edition of The V-Twin Tuner’s Handbook becomes volume one of a multi-volume set. It is extensively revised, updated and enhanced over previous editions. It is nearly three times as comprehensive as earlier versions and includes over 30,000 additional words, 90 more pages and 116 new photos and illustrations.

Much new material has been added to the topic of internal combustion engine principles and concepts. Many new mathematical equations have been added to Section 1. Several of the equations in Chapter 11, Quarter And Eighth Mile Performance, have been optimized for greater accuracy over a wider spectrum by Patrick Hale, who markets a complete line of performance software through his company Racing Systems Analysis operating out of Phoenix Arizona. Additionally, almost 20 new reference tables have been added to Section 2, including some for the new Twin Cam 88 engine.

To help put things in perspective, The V-Twin Tuner’s Handbook, Volume Two, a brand-new volume, picks up where this volume stops and includes 14 substantial chapters and several appendices. The book begins with several detailed chapters discussing the theory and practical application of engine design, since successful tuning starts with proper engine design. Six more chapters cover the intricacies of dyno tuning and how not to get duped. Five additional chapters explain the details of step-by-step trackside tuning. Also included is a chapter on dyno-tested engine combinations, an extensive glossary and, as a bonus, a comprehensive update of Twin Cam 88 performance capabilities.

The in-depth and concise engine building and tuning information contained herein is hard to find, not to mention difficult and time consuming to compile and document. For these reasons, you will find that information conspicuously absent from typical run-of-the-mill high-performance books. It is hoped, however, that all the hard work and long hours required to develop the following exhaustive information will provide you with a better understanding of the internal combustion engine in general, and the Harley-Davidson V-twin engine in specific.

You may be interested to know that I reference this book on a daily basis. I find it extremely handy, and it saves me much time in my work. Hopefully, it will save you much time in your performance endeavors, while helping you maximize your motorcycle’s or vehicle’s performance.

About the Author
D. William Denish grew up in the Midwest and as a teenager was introduced to Harley-Davidson dirt track racing by his Uncle Leo. At 14 he got his first motorcycle--a 10 horsepower Mustang. Before the summer ended, the Mustang had a big Amal carb, high compression cylinder head and racing cam.

In 1964 William bought his first Harley--a XLCH Sportster. Although just the sound of the Sportster's idle discouraged challengers, the only way to fly was with a stroker motor. So during the winter the engine was punched out to 65 cubic inches, which pushed quarter mile performance to 12.10 E.T. at 110 mph. Eventually engine displacement was bumped up to 86 cubic inches and performance improved to 11.10 E.T. at 121 mph. Not too shabby considering the narrow 4.00 rear tire and lack of a wheelie bar. Other projects included a bored and stroked 98 cubic inch Shovelhead and modified Evolution "dresser" for long distance touring.

D. William Denish has an extensive background in information technology. He enjoyed a successful 20 plus year career with Honeywell Information Systems as a software programmer, Education Product Manager, Product Marketing Manager, and Sales Training Program Manager. D. William's motorcycle experience spans more than 40 years of which the last 35 have been devoted to building, riding and racing Harleys. He is a contributing editor to popular Harley magazines and the founder and owner of Crystal Publications, publishers of quality high-performance books for the Harley-Davidson enthusiast.

A Generous Companion to the PMBOK v4

Having spent more dollars & hours than i am willing to count, on various & sundry guides to understanding the PMBOK, over far too many years now, I want to share this one with YOU. My goal has been to secure a certification, or course, but more so to understand how my prior experience, knowledge, and understanding relate to the role of the PM per PMI as reflected in the content of the Project Management Body of Knowledge PMBOK. This has enabled me to see my patterns, methods, techniques that work, as well as to raise performance in others, by learning & applying knowledge from the PMBOK, as well as leveraging all my experience, education, & skills with far greater effectiveness.

So, my approach is pragmatic in terms of the above, and that I want to be prepared to pass the Certification Exam with a high degree of confidence that I have mastered the material [a high score].

To me, the Project Management Road Trip is the single BEST companion to the PMBOK. It has the look & feel of a PMBOK Companion in voice and content, while offering an approachability intellectually, on several levels.

The PM Road Trip is PMBOK v4 compliant. I've seen no variances so far.
It is organized in a manner similar to the PMBOK, thereby creating a feel of continuity, yet it brings light to the picture, via comprehensive & comprehensible explanations, examples, definitions, quotations from real people. Chapter vocab. Chapter important concept summary. Chapter 20 question tests. Final exam. Tests include responses, & a bit of 'why'. Overall, nice coverage & presentation.

This book has in short space included very detailed mapping showing each input, output, tool, technique, with the source of the input, destination of the output.
This is included nicely within the various Knowledge area pages in a visual map, as well as in a comprehensive detailed chart listed in resources.

The visuals, LOVE THEM. OK, I am finding the visuals of the Knowledge Areas sticking in my mind with little-to-no effort on my part. [YEA!]

Perhaps it is not perfect? That is a tough one on a publication of this type. A great deal of very specific information.I have found exponentially fewer errors [typos, content errors, etc] in the PM Road Trip than in any other. When I contacted the author to express appreciation for this gem, it was HE who requested of ME that I let him know if/when I find any errors.
Suffice it to say, not my experience in some other situations.

A wise CEO with whom I had the good fortune to work frequently reminded us to be wary of "Analysis Paralysis".
Project Management Road Trip is a key to help you successfully navigate.

Good content, but not good printing

The content is well written and well organized and I do not disagree with the reviews praising the book. My issue is with the printing itself. There are a couple books just like this that are solid on content. I chose this book after previewing it on Amazon because it had color and a nice layout to break up the monotony of working through the material. Unfortunately, the book is not in color like the preview, but black and white on low-grade paper. Worse, the book was designed to be printed in color so the "color" sections come out poor in gray-scale.

The book is only useful if it helps me get through the material and prepare for the exam. Consequently, the visual appeal and readability of a 560-page book should not be taken lightly and are as important to successfully working through the material as the content itself.

This book is inexpensive, especially compared to the cost of the exam and a retake, so in the end I recommend it if you don't mind a little "bait and switch."

Our company bought this book for a PMP prep course, the contents and practices are great! simple explanation helpful to understand every knowledge areas and processes groups.
The bad point here is the cover of the book, because it's not a good material and some of the covers of the books were completely wrinkle and damage
