About the Author
David L. Adamy has 50 years experience developing EW systems from DC to Light, deployed on platforms from submarines to space, with specifications from QRC to high reliability. For the last 30 years, he has run his own company, performing studies for the US Government and defense contractors. He has also presented dozens of courses in the US and Europe on Electronic Warfare and related subjects He has published over 200 professional articles on Electronic Warfare, receiver system design, and closely related subjects, including the popular EW101 column in the Journal of Electronic Defense. He holds an MSEE (Communication theory) and has 14 books in print, including EW 101, EW 102, and EW 103.

A Great Resource to Start Gaining Your EW Knowledge

Worth Every Cent If You Want to Know Electronic Warfare. I can't recommend this 442 page tome enough. Of course you will need the EW 101, 102 &103 EW books if you want to fully understand this latest volume by a master writer of engineering electronic warfare lecturer David L. Adamy who is one of the leaders of the 14,000 members of the Society of Old Crows.

Grade 1-3-This worthy title uses familiar examples and a clear focus to introduce basic scientific concepts. An opening scene shows children playing ball, flying kites, and cooking and eating hot dogs, with a rock on a hill in the background. Bradley explains that inherent in the scenarios are different kinds of energy. She then tells how the kite uses the wind, the rock converts stored energy into moving energy, and so on, and discusses how the greatest source of power, the sun, makes food, fossil fuels, light, heat, and wind. The author intentionally makes this a very general introduction; not even moderately difficult words such as "potential" or "kinetic" are used. A simple experiment and a game are appended. While rolling a toy car into a stationary one and observing the result can be easily done, tracing energy back to the sun will probably need adult guidance. Meisel's color illustrations of cheerful multiethnic children match the level and tone of the text perfectly, make it more comprehensible, and add to the book's appeal. While educational theorists believe that children can't grasp abstractions until at least age seven, younger readers will gain some familiarity with the concept even if they don't really understand it. Larry White's Energy: Simple Experiments for Young Scientists (Millbrook, 1995) offers a more sophisticated and detailed introduction, along with many experiments, for older readers, but Bradley's title is a good first exposure to the subject.

The organization may be confusing: children don't find out until near the end of the book that most of our energy comes from the sun. But some kids will be intrigued by the way the book builds to this information and will keep reading to find out more. The book begins with cartoon-style illustrations showing people playing and working at different activities, all of which, of course, require energy. The text, which includes information about the fueling of both objects and people, goes on to explain that energy gives both heat and light, that all activities require energy, and that energy can be transferred from one thing to another. Appealing art and easily understandable explanations make this a good basis for teaching beginning science principles. Ilene Cooper

Great science book for kids about energy

I really like the "Let's Read and Find out Science 2" series. These are great science books for elementary school and they are perfect for my first grader. They use familiar examples to introduce basic scientific concepts in a simple but fun way. They are interesting for both kids and adults. I have found them to be a valuable tool to teach these concepts to my kids.

I bought this book as well as Forces Make Things Move for use in an engineering class I did for kindergartners/first graders and they were both fabulous. The author does a great job of distilling complicated ideas into simple easy to understand concepts, which is NOT an easy feat. The kids had no trouble understanding the ideas as presented and even the adults present learned some new things. The illustrations are engaging and well-done. I would happily buy anything else from this author and highly recommend these both!

Catcher presents a narrative in which adolescent embrace of American ideals of individualism and egalitarianism lead to criticism and rejection of dominant postwar social practices—a narrative as threatening to some adults as it is heartening to others. Attempts to remove Catcher from high schools as an "un-American" text have generated continuous and extensive controversy, distinguishing it as one of the most frequently taught postwar novels—and the most frequently censored.

Treating Catcher as a cultural Rorschach test, In Cold Fear tracks debate discourse in open-ended interviews, public media, editorial letters, and in school board and community meetings in Alabama, California, New Mexico, and Virginia. Debate participants express common agreement with Salinger’s critique of postwar American life but divide over whether adolescents should be either exposed to or protected from this perspective. The peculiar angst of the debate is explained by participants’ articulation of a wizening of the American spirit: a declining vision of American exceptionalism, recognition of social powerlessness, and fearfulness of an uncertain American future rooted in the threat of nuclear annihilation.

In Cold Fear provides historical post-holes for understanding how differing audiences interpreted Catcher and offers a suggestive context for understanding the contemporary anxieties of America’s "troubled teens."

Pamela Hunt Steinle is an associate professor in the American Studies Department at California State University, Fullerton. She teaches courses on American culture and character, television and culture, and war and culture as well as undergraduate and graduate seminars on American Studies theories and methods. She is currently working on a study of the school shootings as an emergent cultural ritual among advantaged adolescents.

Bought it for a class

Like the title says this book was bought for a class and thus I can only view it through that lens. The authors have strived to break everything you'll ever need to know about IFRS accounting to the bare bones and they've accomplished their task so much so that you'll sometimes find yourself re-reading pages to fully grasp what they're trying to convey (or this could be that I'm not that very good at Accounting for that matter) and if you don't get it on the 35th re-read you'll chuck the damn book at the nearest wall. The one thing I like this book for is the massive amounts of questions they give to you because they want to ensure that you know the chapters down pat.
On a side note this book was beautifully done, the layout crisp and sharp and the imagery none to garish; its quite a lovely book to look through actually.

This was a delightful story about unrequited love on both the parts of the man and the woman.

Gabe Corbin had been in love with Andrea Bauer since he interviewed her for he job, likewise Andrea fell in love with Gabe in the same interview. But Bret Weyland led Gabe to believe that he and Andrea were living together, because they went out one time, and Bret fell for Andrea.

Gabe decided because he couldn't have Andrea he was going to sale his company and go back home to make peace with his family.

But Andrea had at the same time made up her mind, since she couldn't have Gabe, she would have a hystrectomy because she had endometriosis and if she didn't have a baby within 6 months she would never have a child.

She told Gabe becaues she had to tell him why she was leaving his company.

Gabe now that he knew Andrea wasn't living with Bret, he hoped he would have a chance to make her love him. So he asked Andrea to marry him. She concented, hoping she could make him love her.

Gabe went home, taking his now wife Andrea with him.

Gabe found out because of Andrea that he had not gotten this girl pregnate at the age of 16. When he left home at the age of 16.

Gabe found out that she had was malested by her uncle and she was pregnate. He also found out that his mother had left because of the same woman who tried the get her daughter to claim Gabe was the father of her child, she told Gabe's mom about the loan Gabe's father had got from her father. And broke up their marriage thinking she might have a chance with Gabe's dad once he and his wife were no longer together. But it didn't work out, so she got back at him by making trouble with Gabe and his dad.

Andrea found out and she told Gabe, Gabe told his grandfather, who told his father.

Gabe and Andrea were busy trying to make a baby.

Finally Gabe told Andrea how he felt, and he told Andrea he knew she loved him. She admitted she did and they got married again this time by a priest and that made it right.

Gabe's mom and dad got remarried too.

I also like Jessica Steele, Helen Brooks, Diana Palmer, the late great Essie Summers, and Betty Neels.
